Dear friends!
Our new article is dedicated to all couples who want to tie the knot in the Kingdom of Thailand. We'll explain how to organize this important event. The entire process involves three steps: collecting documents, registering the marriage, and legalizing the Thai marriage certificate.
Let's begin with the first step, which involves collecting the necessary documents in Bangkok. The most important document is the affidavit of marital status, or, in simple terms, a certificate of marital status. To obtain this document, the couple must appear in person at the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in Thailand with their original passports and complete the affidavit form. The information will then be verified and certified by a responsible officer at the Consular Section and delivered to you personally. This certificate must be legalized and translated into Thai at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Allow two business days, excluding Wednesdays, for document collection, and budget in advance for the fees and charges of the Consulate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
Let's move on to the most important part: official marriage registration in Thailand, which can take place in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Samui, and Koh Chang. There are two options: the first is to marry at a local registry office, or invite an officer from the local municipality to your wedding ceremony, which will be held on the beach or in a villa. In both cases, you must submit a package of documents to the local registry office. This package includes photocopies of your passports and an affidavit of marital status, translated into Thai and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. Immediately after the ceremony, the responsible official from the administration/officer will present you with a marriage certificate in Thai. Now, according to the laws of the Kingdom of Thailand, you are husband and wife!
We now move on to the final stage, which will allow you to be considered married in Russia. A few days after your wedding ceremony in Thailand, you go to the local registry office where your wedding took place and obtain an extract from the marriage register. You now have two documents: a marriage certificate in Thai and an extract from the marriage register. Your task is to legalize the Thai marriage certificate so that your marriage is recognized in the Russian Federation. First, the documents are legalized and translated into English at the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, after which they are submitted (with a Russian translation) to the Consular Section for legalization and certification of the translation. Now that you have a marriage certificate in Russian, upon your return to Russia, you can go to your local registry office and have the marriage stamped in your passports, after which your marriage is considered legal in the Russian Federation.
At first glance, officially registering a marriage in Thailand may seem like a rather complicated and tedious procedure, but that's only the surface. By planning each step in advance, you can easily enter into an official union in this wonderful country.
